WHO IS GOD?

This is not an attempt to completely explain God.  No one can do this, but God explains and describes Himself to the extent He wants us to know in His Word.  Deuteronomy 29:29 declares: "The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law."

One thing is certain, God is not what we imagine Him to be.  "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools..." - Romans 1:21, 22

Here are some facts about God:

1.  God always existed.  "IN THE BEGINNING GOD..." - Genesis 1:1 (partial verse and caps for emphasis)   The "beginning" here refers to the beginning of the universe, as God had no beginning."From EVERLASTING TO EVERLASTING YOU ARE GOD." - Psalm 90:2 (caps for emphasis)

2.  God is the Creator of all things.  "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." - Genesis 1:1   "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." - Colossians 1:16,17

3.  God is a GODHEAD.  "For there are THREE that bear record in heaven, the FATHER, the WORD, and the HOLY GHOST: and these three are one." (in perfect unity and purpose) - 1 John 5:7   "Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device." - Acts 17:29  "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:" - Romans 1:20

4.  Jesus Christ is God in human form.  "For in him (Jesus Christ) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily."  - Colossians 2:9  "Jesus said...he that has seen me has seen the Father..."- John 14:9  "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." - John 1:1-3  "And the Word WAS MADE FLESH, AND DWELT AMONG US, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. - John 1:14  The birth of Jesus Christ was prophesied 700 years before it happened, as well as his birth place.  "But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, though you be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel (and the rest of the universe); whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." - Micah 5:2   This was fulfilled in Matthew 2:1. Compare this to Isaiah 9:6 which reads: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

5.  Jesus Christ is the only bridge to God for mankind.  "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." - 1 Timothy 2:5
